Presentation Day - May 19th

Preparations for our Presentation day started earlier that week at the monthly Committee Meeting. After dealing with other issues it was then time for the right honourable Peter Brookes to make the most important decision of the evening "How many pies should we order". After some indecision between the Committee members on whether it should be 50 or 60, Brooksy stamped his authority "it is agreed then, 70 pies".

The Club had pulled out the stops this year and ordered a 50 inch TV screen for the FA Cup Final. It was a great set up but unfortunately we witnessed one of the worst finals ever seen.

After clocking up a few fines over the season for dirty boots, turning up late, mobile phone use etc the first team lads were fortunate to get 5 or 6 pints each from this kitty. Unfortunately Superstar Curry had been put in charge of the kitty and seemed to be on a mission with a pint every 10 mins. He decided to order everyones pint at the same time so we all had to drink up every 10 mins. Not a good idea at 3pm in the afternoon with a pub crawl still to come later.

After the boring game it was time for the main event "The trophy presentations". Up first was the A team awards presented by Steve Atkinson (the younger version with not as much money). Chopper Coward took a well deserved Players Player award and the dirtiest player at training award (Rhino seemed unhappy with this decision). Jim "Pie" Mitchell took the managers player award, apparently nothing to do with the fact he was Atkys right hand man.

For the Reserves, Wayne Rebanks took the "Thanks for the sandwiches award" and after a week long female vote in polling stations set up in the local Pubs, Jimmy Pittam strolled up for the "Best hamstrings award" Big Jim was also up for the "Sun bed award" but they had to scrap the idea as they could not separate Stigger, Jammy and Jim. It was a good day for Pittam as he later won £50 in the "Phil Jackson raffle". For once not one member of the Jackson family won anything. Greeny also netted £50, he blew half of it on drink and lost the other £25 crawling back to his kennel in the early hours.

For the 1st team Big John Walker took the "Best attitude award". Rids & Bob promise they were not influenced or threatened by big John earlier that afternoon. They say Dingy was originally up for this one. Players player and Managers Player both went to Stonky Brough. As usual Stonky was suffering from his first 2 pints and although he seemed overcome with emotion and staggered from side to side trying to muster a speech he managed one word "Thanks". It was later revealed that when we set off into town, Stu had taken a de-tour home and tucked his trophies up in bed.

Just when we thought the presentation was over, Prokas arose from his seat. Not known for his speeches the room went quiet with fear of boredom. Most of Richs sentences normally start with the words "ERRR YEAH" in true professional footballer style but on this occasion Rich delivered an appropriate send off to Rids & Bob. Thanks Rich.

It was now 7.30pm and time to set off into town (at which point Ren disappeared and with respect to the local pub watch scheme, Dingy went home!).

At this point your narrator was feeling the effects of Currys earlier drinkathon and the pub crawl remains a bit of a blur, however there are questions that remain unanswered:

  • What happened with Kieron
  • Whos decision was it to order 40 Vodka and cokes in the druids
  • Where did Jaime Howard get that yellow shirt from
  • Who did actually win the FA Cup
  • Who is Keyser Soze

And finally, as a club with a true family feel it was nice to see all the lads leaving with their partners at the end of the Warehouse:

Nutty & Di, Felly & Louise, Chopper & Kelly, Coleman & Kieron, Mitchy & his Kebab, Stu & his trophies and as a true gesture of friendship from the club captain, Martin, Kelly & ...Jammy.

Thanks to everyone involved in arranging the presentation day. Thanks to Rids, Bob and David Bird for their hard work over the years and we wish them the best for the future.

See you all Tue 10th July at the Rec for pre-season training.
